(11: 2) same is what we remember
[ 2] The same is what we remember our ancestors.
(CIC 193) None of the symbols of the different stages of the life of the Church can be considered as outdated and useless. Help us to attain and deepen the faith of all time today through the various summaries which she made. Among all symbols of faith, two occupy a special place in the life of the Church: (CCC 194) The Apostles' Creed so called because it is rightly considered to be a faithful summary of the faith of the Apostles. It is the ancient baptismal symbol of the Church of Rome. Its great authority arises from this fact: "It is the symbol of the Roman Church, the See of Peter, the first of the apostles, to which he brought the common faith" (St. Ambrose, Explanatio symboli , 7: PL 17, 1196). (CCC 195) The Symbol called Nicene its great authority to the fact that it stems from the first two ecumenical councils (325 and 381). Is still now the common symbol for all the great Churches of East and West. (CIC 196) Our presentation of the faith will follow the Apostles' Creed , that is, so to speak, "the oldest Roman catechism". However, the exhibition will be supplemented by constant references to the Nicene Symbol , which is often more explicit and more detailed. (CIC 191) Each of these three parts are subdivided into a number of varied and accurate formulas. Using a comparison frequently repeated in the writings of the Fathers, we call items to each of the formulas Symbol and dissenting CLAA we believe, as we call item (s) to the various parts into which each of the parts of human body ( Roman Catechism, 1,1,4). According to ancient tradition, already attested to by St. Ambrose, it is customary to enumerate twelve articles of the Creed, symbolizing the number of the twelve apostles, all of the apostolic faith (St. Ambrose, Explanatio symboli , 8: PL 17, 1196) . (CIC 819) Moreover, "many elements of sanctification and truth" (Lumen Gentium , 8) exist outside the visible boundaries of the Catholic Church: "the word of God written, the life of grace, faith, hope and charity and other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit and visible elements "(UR , 3, cf. LG 15). The Spirit of Christ uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power comes from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church. All these goods come from Christ and lead to him (cf. UR , 3) and impel themselves "Catholic unity" (Lumen Gentium , 8).
