(11: 17-18) By faith Abraham went to sacrifice Isaac
[17] By faith Abraham went to sacrifice Isaac when God wanted put to the test, was offering the only child who was to inherit the promise, [18] and God told him: Through Isaac descendants will carry your name.
(CIC 2570) When God called, Abraham sets off "as stated by the Lord" (Gen. 12, 4): all his heart "is subjected to the word" and obey. Listening to the heart to God, is essential to prayer, the words have a relative value. So Abraham's prayer is expressed first by deeds: a man of silence, each step builds an altar to the Lord. Only later appears the first sentence with words: a veiled complaint reminding God of His promises do not seem to be fulfilled (cf. Gn 15, 2-3). This arises from the very beginning one aspect of the drama of prayer: the test of faith in God is faithful. (CIC 2572) As a final purification of his faith, asks "who had received the promises" (11, 17) to sacrifice the son God gave him. His faith did not hesitate: "God will provide the lamb for the burnt offering" (Genesis 22, 8), "I thought God was powerful for even raising the dead" (11, 19). Thus, the father of believers is like the Father who will not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all (cf. Rm 8, 32). Prayer restores man in the likeness of God and to share in the power of God's love that saves the crowd (cf. Rom 4: 16-21). (CIC 145) The letter to the Hebrews, in the high praise of the faith of the ancestors particularly insists on the faith of Abraham: "By faith, Abraham obeyed and went to the place which he would receive an inheritance, and left without knowing where he was going "(Heb 11.8, cf. Gn 12.1 to 4). By faith he lived as a stranger and pilgrim in the promised land (cf. Gen. 23.4). By faith, Sarah was given to conceive the child of promise. By faith, finally, Abraham offered his only son in sacrifice (cf. Heb 11.17).
