Hb 11, 3 The world has its origins in what appears not

(11: 3) The world has its origins in what appears not

[3] By faith we believe that the phases of creation were prepared by the word of God and understand that the visible world has its roots in what is missing.

(CIC 286) Human intelligence can certainly and find an answer to the question of origins. Indeed, the existence of God the Creator can be known with certainty through his works by the light of human reason (cf. Vatican Council I: DS 3026), although this knowledge is often obscured and disfigured by error. This is why faith comes to confirm and clarify the reason for the correct understanding of this truth: "By faith we understand that the universe was formed by the word of God, so what you see out of things missing," (Heb 11.3). (CIC 297) The belief in creation "from nothing" is attested in Scripture as a truth full of promise and hope. Thus the mother of seven sons encourages martyrdom: "I do not know how you came into my bowels, nor was I who gave you life and breath, nor I organized the elements of each. Therefore the Creator of the world, who shaped the man at his birth and devised the origin of all things, give you back the spirit and life with mercy, since you now forget yourselves for the sake of his laws [... ]. I beg you, son, look at the heavens and the earth and seeing everything that is in them, know that from nothing what did God and also mankind comes into existence in (7.22 2M -23.28).
