(11: 20-22) By faith Isaac gave the blessing
[20] By faith also Isaac and Jacob gave Esau chose the future blessings. [21] By faith Jacob , dying, gave blessings than the children of Joseph and leaned leaning on his cane. [22] By faith Joseph, near its end, recalled that the children of Israel would come from Egypt and gave orders concerning his own remains.
(CIC 2573) God renews his promise to Jacob, the origin of the twelve tribes of Israel (cf. Gn 28, 10-22). Before facing his brother Esau, fight a whole night with "someone" mysteriously refuses to reveal his name but bless you before you leave at dawn. The spiritual tradition of the Church has taken this story, the symbol of prayer as a battle of faith and victory perseverance (cf. Gn 32, 25-31, Luke 18, 1-8). (CIC 1080) From the beginning, God bless living beings, especially men and women. The covenant with Noah and all living things renewed this blessing of fruitfulness despite man's sin by which the land is "cursed." But Abraham is from when the divine blessing enters human history, which was heading toward death, to make it back to life, to its source: the faith of the "father of the believers" who receives the blessing opens history of salvation. (CIC 1081) divine blessings manifest in wondrous events and saviors: the birth of Isaac, the Exodus from Egypt (Passover and Exodus), the gift of the Promised Land, the election of David, the presence of God in the temple, purifying exile and return a "little rest." Law, the Prophets and the Psalms that weave the liturgy of the Chosen People remember both these divine blessings and respond to them with the blessings of praise and thanksgiving. (CIC 2626) The blessing background expresses the movement of Christian prayer: it is an encounter between God and man in it, the gift of God and the human host and are held together. The prayer of blessing is man's response to God's gifts: because God blesses, the human heart can bless Turn to Him who is the source of every blessing. (CIC 1082) In the liturgy of the Church, the blessing of God is fully revealed and communicated, the Father is known and adored as the source and purpose of all the blessings of creation and salvation in His Word incarnate, crucified and risen for us, filling us with His blessings and he pours into our hearts the Gift that contains all the gifts: the Holy Spirit.
